Winter Skin Care
Confession… I love winter!
I love the fashion! The colours!…Beautiful coats and boots <3
I love the crisp mornings, snuggling up with a cup of tea in gorgeous pjs and slippers, and of course keeping warm and snuggly in bed….My favourite place.
But what I don’t love, is how damaging winter can be to our skin!
A lot of people think summer is the most damaging season on our skin, especially because we can literally feel the sun and its rays burning our skin, but winter is A LOT sneakier….
In fact you quite often don’t feel the damage until it has taken a strong hold on the skin!
But never fear my beauties, before the cold sets in I have a few tips and tricks to help you stay beautiful this winter <3
Tip # 1: Moisture from the inside out
– If you are not already supplementing EFA’s now is the time!
I talk about EFA’s (essential fatty acids) a lot, because they are so essential for proper skin function and health. In our western diets we just don’t consume enough good fats (omega 3&6) and this literally becomes our protective skin barrier.
When our skin has a working barrier the skin radiates with health. Without this vital barrier the skin is helpless to foreign invaders and looks lacklustre and unhealthy.

-EFA’s can be obtained from either fish or flax seed. Both are excellent, however a flax source contains extra benefits to skin in the form of Linoleic acid, this is especially beneficial to anyone who suffers from dermatitis or psoriasis.

Tip #2: Protective ingredients
Winter skin care needs to contain different “protective ingredients” than summer skin care.
Let me ask you this….
What is the driest place in your house?… I’ll give you 5 seconds to think…..
It is your fridge/freezer…. Yes seriously your fridge freezer is the driest place in your house… Think about how dry your food gets if you leave it uncovered in your fridge for a day… or even two days!
Now just picture your skin as that food when you expose it unprotected to the cold out doors repetitively and think what is going to happen to it?… It will dry out!
This is the hidden danger of winter! Winter damages by rapidly drawing the moisture out of our skin.
But lucky there are ingredients/products you can use to help fend off the terribly moisture poaching cold!

3: Just because its winter…. doesn’t mean you can ditch the SPF
I know you have heard or read me say this a million times…. But I’m going to say it again!
Where there is light there is UV!
In winter there might not be as high concentration of UVB, but there is still UVA… and that is our skins aging rays, so we still need protection!
The biggest difference when looking for a winter SPF is to choose a SPF in a nourishing formulation – something containing ingredients like Shea Butter, Linseed Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Rose Hip and Ceramides to name a few.
And just a little side note, since we are on the topic… Yes you still need to apply a separate topical SPF, don’t rely on your makeup for this protection :)

Tip #4 Drink up!
I don’t know about you, but in winter I find it so hard to drink water from my water bottle. It’s just so cold the last thing I want to do is drink cold water!
So tip number 4 is drink warm water to keep up your water intake. Be it herbal tea, like green tea or peppermint, fresh lemon in water or just plain water warmed, don’t let the cold be an excuse to not drink your water.
